PADMA (LOTUS)

The Lotus or Padma is a symbol of purity and divine beauty. It always emerges clean from murky waters representing spiritual enlightenment with complete liberation. The slowly unfolding petals of the beautiful Lotus signify the expansion of the soul.

To the ancient Egyptian scholars, the Lotus symbolized rebirth and regeneration. They observed how the Lotus closed its petals at night and sank into the water before reemerging in the following days.

According to Buddhism, the pink Lotus flower is the supreme Lotus and is considered to be the true Lotus of the Buddha.

In Hindu mythology, several gods and goddesses are depicted with the Lotus; for instance, Brahma the god of creation emerges from the Lotus while Laxmi the goddess of wealth is portrayed sitting atop an open Lotus flower.
