MAYUR (PEACOCK)

The Peacock or Mayur is a magnificent bird symbolizing beauty, grace, joy, and love. In Buddhism, it is a symbol of expansive consciousness.

The Peacock is featured in Hindu mythology as a vahana or vehicle of Karthikeya – the god of war and victory. Peacock feathers adorn the hair and flute of Krishna; it is believed that the king of the Peacocks presented the feathers to him as an offering.

Several ancient texts, including the 100,000 verses of the Mahabharata, were written using a Peacock quill dipped into an inkwell. The Peacock itself often appears in Indian folklore and poetry as a symbol of beauty.
